Lille won the highest index of satisfaction, ahead of Paris and Lyon, in the latest ECER-Banques Populaires survey of 2,400 European business leaders.
Based on the responses of nearly 2,400 business leaders to 36 questions, this index of business satisfaction with public and private-sector policies and initiatives in favor of economic development and entrepreneurship confirms the appeal of the capital of French Flanders, which placed well ahead of Paris and Lyon. The presence of some 20 organizations supporting businesses and new ventures is clearly one important factor underpinning confidence in the local business environment. A majority of respondents (68%) judged the image of business positive, 72% praised support for new start-ups and 53% the related financing options, and 68% had a favorable view of assistance available after start up.
Lille’s favored position in the European economic landscape is confirmed by the large number of businesses from all sectors that have their headquarters there. To take only a few examples, these include 3Suisses, Auchan, Bonduelle, Castorama, Cofidis, Dalkia, Decathlon, Finaref, Vauban Humanis, La Mondiale, La Redoute and Leroy Merlin.
